Off-shore distress signal: alone, adrift
Clinging to makeshift raft, avoiding sharks
Empowered to navigate current shift
Aiming her flare gun, red-sky-at-night sparks
Nautical night noises of mermaid harks
Overhead: feathers of seabirds flapping
Glistening in sun, sporting watermarks
Rocking with tide, occasional napping
Awakened by wicked waves white-capping
Panning horizon for lighthouse beacon
Hand-paddling homeward, lightly lapping
Illustrating strength, where ‘lesser’ weaken
Ebbing and flowing in search of a beach
She rolls with the flow, (a figure of speech…)
